2018 finalist, Peter Matthews, has been a frequent vistor to Spectrum’s Cornish headquarters which enjoy close proximity to the dramatic coastal landscapes which are often the inspiration for his compelling paintings and drawings. The prize has really invigorated interest in his work internationally and in the past 12 months, Peter has exhibited in numerous high profile group exhibitions, including The Royal Academy Summer Show, as well as being selected to exhibit at the prestigious John Moores Painting Prize in 2018.
In 2019 Peter’s work will be presented in solo exhibtions at The National Maritime Museum, Greenwhich and at 3 further exhibitions, including Beers, London, Hiroshima City Hall and Haarlem Artspace, Wirksworth. For Peter, Spectrum offered support and a welcoming place to stay when he needed to; allowing him to concentrate on making the vivid paintings and drawings which are now beginning to bring him real international recognition.
